Demonstrations & Workshops
Teaching linocut at Albatross Print Studio, Watchet
I love to share my knowledge and experience of printmaking with others through demonstrations and workshops. I am an experienced demonstrator and teacher of woodcut, linocut and monotype printmaking, as well as drawing, watercolour and oil painting. I can tailor both demonstrations and workshops to your specific requirements, please contact me to find out more. Below is a selection of recent workshops I have run.
Introduction To Linocut workshop description
In this one-day workshop, you will be introduced to the principles of the dynamic and addictive process of linocut printing. We will practice using lino-cutting tools and learn how to care for and maintain them. We will design a one-colour linocut image and transfer it to the block, before cutting, inking and printing. We will have a go at printing contrasting patterns over one another to create exciting and unpredictable multilayered prints. We will learn how to hand print linocuts using a spoon or Japanese bamboo baren. This workshop is suitable for beginners, or printmakers who have not done any relief printing for some time and need a refresher.

Woodcut workshop description - The Reduction Print Method
In this one-day workshop, you will be introduced to the principles of the dynamic and addictive process of woodcut printing. We will practice using gouges and learn how to care for and maintain them. We will design a two-colour woodcut image and transfer it to the block, before cutting, inking and printing the image using the reduction print method (all colours cut from the same block). We will learn how to hand print woodcuts, looking at how to allow the grain of the wood to add to the beauty of the finished print, using a spoon or Japanese bamboo baren.. This workshop is suitable for beginners, or printmakers who have not done any relief printing for some time and need a refresher.

Monotype workshop description
Monotype is a highly tactile and adaptable printmaking process that allows you to build an image in layers, with a variety of mark-making methods, including stencilling, drawing and painting. The simplest description of the process is the act of creating an image in ink on a flat surface that you then put paper on top of to make a print of it - but it's so much more than this as you will soon see! In this workshop, you will be guided through techniques that will successfully give you a wide variety of effects, and a means of interpreting a personal response to subject matter. Once you have tried these techniques and gained confidence in what is possible with this addictive process, you will be encouraged to create expressive monotype prints, building colours and textures in layers. You will be shown hand printing techniques that can be easily repeated at home after the workshop.
Testimonials For Workshops
‘I was able to catch up with your video over the weekend. Thank you for such an enjoyable and informative session. I couldn't believe it when you said there were only a few minutes left ... I had become so absorbed!’, Mr K. Kay, May 2022
‘I'd just like let you know how much HHAG enjoyed having you with us again and that we hope you'll return to tutor us in your inimitable way. You made your sessions so informative and interesting and they were excellently planned. We're very lucky to have had your support and we enjoy your company.’ - J. Hall, Heath House Art Group, May 2022
‘Thank you so much for the last few weeks Lisa, I have enjoyed every minute it has done wonders for my well-being. I’ve barely found any time for myself for years and this has made me realise how much I miss being creative. I’m going to continue to try to make time for a few hours painting each Saturday which is the only day I really have spare. It has given me something to look forward to each week. I will definitely be booking some more classes with you. Thank you!’ - R. Edwards, March 2022
‘Thank you so much for what has been a brilliant 3 week course. Your material that you gave us in all weeks and in the last week others contributed too, was truly special.
I came to the course open minded but nervous. You always explained everything as much as possible very carefully and in a way that was easy to follow. You were also always cheerful and patient and kind and that went a long way. You were there to help and guide and teach, but always felt one of us as the group as a whole.
…Through watching you on the cam and being inspired by you and others in the group, I have enjoyed it so very very much and I am going on practising and even feel I can go out and try in the outdoors, even if it's not wonderful, the joy of just trying and doing and just seeing what evolves is marvellous.’ - S. Cushing, March 2022
