About the event

This promises to be a very exciting weekend of linocut!

The multi-block linocut printmaking process involves cutting a separate lino block for each colour of an image and printing them on top of one another to build the picture in layers. This weekend-workshop will be an opportunity to try the process out and get to grips with every stage of the process. On day one you will be introduced to the materials and tools you'll be working with and advised on ways to get the best out of them. We will spend time designing prints and considering the best colours and textures for expressing your idea, before cutting our blocks ready for printing.

On day two you will have a day of exploring colour and printing techniques, with opportunities to try colour blends, ways to add texture and compare different versions of the same print. You will go home with an A6 linocut print and two blocks that you can use again, either in the studio or at home.

Materials and Equipment: Basic materials will be provided but there will be charges for additional plates, inks and papers.

On the day: Tea and coffee will be available in the workshop. The Exeter Phoenix Café is open on Saturday (but closed on Sundays) should you wish to purchase other refreshments during the workshop.

Please be aware, there is no parking at Exeter Phoenix, except for one parking space for disabled customers but we are a short walk from many long stay car parks.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us by emailing courses@doubleelephant.org.uk.
