About the event
On the 2nd and 3rd of November, we are delighted that artist Lisa Takahashi will be returning to our studio, this time to run a two day printing workshop making multiblock linocut prints. The workshop will run from 10am to 4pm on each day.
At this weekend workshop, you will immerse yourself in this tactile and meditative approach to relief printmaking. Multi-block linocut printing allows you to create multi-coloured images, cutting into several linocut blocks before rolling ink on each, and printing them on top of one another to build the full picture. This approach allows you to try making different colourways of each print, and experiment with how you apply the colour, adding texture and variations of colour saturation to control the depth and drama of your work.
The multi-block print process is often worked out over weeks, months or even years! But this weekend-workshop will condense the process while still allowing for time to understand what’s involved – from designing, and image transfer to the blocks, to cutting and printing.
Day One
The principles of multi-block linocut design
How to cut lino safely and efficiently
Printing initial layers onto Japanese paper (‘washi’)
Day Two
Printing consequent layers
Experimenting with texture
Trying different colour ways and exploring the impact of colour.
Optional: Trying out ‘blind embossing’ (using heavy pressure to emboss your paper, without using ink. This can lead to subtle and beautiful results)
Cost: To include all materials £100 for Wessex sculptor members, and £110 for non-members.
Payment: We require full payment in advance to secure a place.
